PODIATRY

Podiatric Medicine involves the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot and ankle. Some of the services that might be rendered include the medical treatment of athlete’s foot fungus, sprains, tendonitis, nail fungus, ingrown nails, etc. Surgical treatment may be offered for correction of bunions, hammertoes and other podiatric orthopedic deformities of the foot.

It is extremely important for all diabetic patients to be evaluated by the podiatric physician. Diabetics many times will experience circulatory and neuropathic problems resulting in a foot that has decreased sensation and poor circulation. These factors increase the probability of unwanted outcomes such as foot and/or leg amputations. However, studies have shown that regular foot care decreases these types of outcomes. Consequently, care is taken to distribute literature regarding how diabetes and peripheral vascular disease (poor circulation) affects the foot. Patients are asked to have routinely scheduled visits.

Podiatry services are offered at both the Isaac Coggs Heritage Health Center and the Martin Luther King Heritage Health Center sites. Appointments are offered Monday thru Thursdays at the Coggs site (414-760-3900) and Fridays at the M.L.K. site (414-372-8080). The schedule is subject to change. Most insurances are accepted. Podiatric Medicine is provided in a caring and professional manner by Dr. Hairston, the staff podiatrist.

Remember, a healthy foot is a happy foot. Let Milwaukee Health Services keep you on your toes.
