The Early Intervention Program (or EIP) is a clinic within Milwaukee Health Services dedicated to improving the health of individuals living with HIV/AIDS. HIV is a growing problem in our community, and it is the mission of the Early Intervention Program to both decrease the spread of the disease and demonstrate that HIV is, indeed, a treatable disease. We provide comprehensive, specialized medical care in addition to primary care services, social work services, access to nutritional, behavioral health, and oral health care services, and support groups. We welcome individuals from any background, and accept all patients regardless of medical insurance. The Early Intervention Program also provides confidential HIV testing open to the public.
How do I access the services of EIP?
If you or someone you know is HIV+ and needs care, you can call the clinic at (414) 267-3700 and our program assistant will be happy to assist you. She will ask you a brief set of questions and prepare you for the next step.
What happens next?
You will be assigned to a Nurse Case Manager and between the two of you, you will decide what day/time is convenient for you to come in and be enrolled into the program. He/she will perform an initial intake which will consist of lab work (having your blood drawn in the lab), answering a few questions to help us serve you better, and scheduling your initial appointment with the doctor. It takes about one hour to complete this process.
What other services do you provide?
In addition to specialized medical care for HIV disease, EIP provides two types of case management services: Nurse Case Management and Social Service Case Management. You will always be assigned to a Nurse Case Manager. He/she will help you navigate your medical care. Social Service Case Management is available for individuals who need assistance with things like food, transportation, housing, clothing and other related issues.
Other available services include:
- Behavioral (Mental) Health Services
- Pharmacy
- Oral Health Care
- Nutritional (Dietician) Counselings and assessments
- Legal Assistance
- Specialty services, i.e. Dermatology, Optometry and Physical
Rehabilitation to name a few, are done through referral.
Milwaukee Health Services, Inc., Early Intervention Program is committed to providing quality care in a culturally competent environment.
We encourage patients to be active participants in their medical care. The Early Intervention Program offers quarterly focus groups in which patients can collectively express their concerns and share their ideas on how we can serve them better.
